Fancy a Sunday 5Km Trial?

This Sunday (19th Feb) Les has organised a Club Time Trial over 5km.

We will run the 5km route from Alltami Tavarn to Pinfold Lane. We will meet at 10.45 for an 11.00 am start. Les will organise the start, slowest set off first, faster runners later. In theory everybody should finish about the same time. So anybody could win if they have a good day!

Please come along and enjoy a bit of fun with the club as well as a really good training session. Afterwards we can enjoy tea and bikkies etc.

Les has put a great deal of time and effort into the event. Please come along and join in. And if you are thinking you don't want to interupt your marathon training, why not use it as the middle or even the end of your long run?

Personally I will be there because I want to beat Matt Rose. Money may have to change hands, I am sure Les can be bribed to fix the start times. I don't mind paying because I have backed myself to win and the bookies are offering me very good odds.

CC at Oswestry

A good day at Oswestry today. Very cold with a slight breeze. Ground frozen very hard, rough in places with a dusting of light snow, hard on the ankles but good running conditions.

A good turn-out with four ladies and seven men meant we had full teams.

Usual excellent "social" at the end with tea, coffee and cakes while the results are being calculated. Worth waiting for too. Matt 3rd overall, Pete Roberts won V65, Erika 3rd overall. But the really good news is the ladies winning Division Two, a fine, sustained effort by them. Well done all of you.

North Wales CC Champs at Rhug

Another good day at the races saw eleven Buckley Runners turn out for this excellent event. It's a great location, a good course and a good atmosphere. And the weather was fine and cold. Course is challenging; hilly and muddy with a couple of streams to cross.

Jane and Fenn had good runs for the ladies.

Matt had a fine run; he was supported by Simon R, Paul D, Paul S, Chris and Les, with Pete, John M and Rob running in the masters (60+) race.

The results were a bit of a mystery, there seem to have been several problems and I have not seen the final results yet but I know this much. After quite a bit of recounting and re-awarding
Matt, Simon, Paul, Paul, Chris and Les got silver in the senior men
Simon, Paul D and Les got silver in the vets
John, Pete and Rob got gold in the supervets.

Tremendous effort all round but an exta mention for Les who put in a terrific run. Cross country is not in his comfort zone. He was struggling on the uneven slippery surface but he finished the race and because of his efforts he made up both the senior men's and vets team ensuring they brought home the medals. He ended up getting treatment from the St John Ambulance people, but welit was a fine performance. Thank you, Les.

Apparently I was awarded third in the Vet 60 category on the day. I wasn't at the presentation but I could have told them I was not third, I know who was ahead of me. But that seems to have been typical of the results on the day.

Twin Piers 10k

A strong tail-wind was a considerable help for this race - I suspect the Olympics Committee might regard some of these times as 'wind-assisted'! The new developments by the Colwyn Bay pier mean that an inelegant extra loop through a housing estate now breaks up the point-to-point simplicity of the original Llandudno-Colwyn Bay dash. Not many of us at this event this year - but apologies in advance if I missed anyone on the results.

11. Simon R, 34.17
42. Mike Jones, 39.09
102. Michael Ludden, 42.41
152. Margaret, 46.06
156. Jane, 46.22
196. Jack, 48.28

Dates for your diary

The AGM of the club will be on Thursday 26th January, at 8.30 after training. I'm still waiting to confirm the venue but please can you put this date in your diary. It's the only meeting that we have in a year so it's important that we get it right and that the members are able to help plan for next year.

I'll let you know about the venue as soon as I can.

We had a good day at Lilleshall today, the weather was fantastic, cold and sunny and the ground was dry - a vast improvement on the the freezing cold fog of last year. We had a pretty good turnout for this event that is always difficult to get to. Thanks to everybody who turned out and well done on some excellent performances.

Twin Piers next weekend plus Helsby Half (22nd)
N Wales Regional CC at Rhug on 28th
Final Cross Country at Oswestry on Saturday 4th
