Handicap Race

Over twenty runners competed in the handicap race organised on Moel Famau on Tuesday night. Runners set off at intervals, slowest first. The course is 4.4 miles and 650 feet of climbing (and descent) on the forest tracks.

Hazel and Alice had a real battle for the lead. They were neck and neck when they passed me about 25 minutes into the race. It was finally won by Hazel who edged ahead in the last few hundred yards. Several other good runs too.

Huge thanks to Rup for timekeeping and providing something for the midges to feed on. And to John Morris for organising it. Sorting out the start times is a real challenge with so many unknown factors, but it was very successful. I think there was about 4 minutes from first finsiher to last.

Afterwards we went to the Colomendy Arms in Cadole for well-earned drink. It was good to see new faces and runners returning from injury. It was particularly good to see some people less familiar with the trail running out there enjoying themselves.
