Edale Skyline fell race

Simon Roberts competed in the classic Edale Skyline fell race yesterday, finishing in 3:37. Again, perfect spring conditions for this tough race - 21 miles, 4,500ft of climbing, acres of peatbog - which makes a complete loop of the ridges above the Edale Valley in the Derbyshire peak district.

Rhayader 'round the lakes' 20 mile race

Three Buckley runners competed at the notoriously hilly Rhayader 20 mile road race in mid Wales yesterday. It's a bit like a fell race on tarmac, very scenic, with around 1000ft of climbing in the first 6 or 7 miles. Conditions were near-perfect - hazy sunshine and a cooling breeze. Simon Roberts staggered home in 33rd place: 2:22:38. Paul Donoghue 100th in 2:39:29 (apparently without breaking sweat), with Rob Davies 288th in 3:21:50.
