John Pares is the Commonwealth Champion

Huge congratulations to John who won the men's commonwealth 24 hour race in Llandudno today. I can't find the full details of how far he ran, but suffice to say that it was a ****** long way!

Going there to score for a couple of hours gave a fascinating insight into what these races are all about. The preparation in terms of drinks and clothing, the helpers, the strategies ( do you run/walk, when to have a massage, when to eat etc. etc. ) all have to be thought through and the kit laid out in the tent beforehand. There were times when your runner apparently 'disappeared' for up to 10 minutes, and you weren't sure whether they'd given up, or gone for a change of clothes, or an extended walk, or what. Mike Robbins was in the Welsh tent who were helping John and the others in the team through the 24 hour period, so thanks to him.

John usually does a write up of his races, so hopefully we can put that on the blog, or make a link to it, so that you can see a proper write up of the race.

But for now we can simply bask in the reflected glory of having a Commonwealth champion in our club !.

Llyn Brenig Race

Another week, another circumnavigation of a scenic lake. A little weather window for this, although we did have a bit of a headwind to contend with at times. Some of us put in better performances in the evening's Denbigh beer festival than we did in the race...

I think they may have mixed up Margaret and Mike on the results. Margaret - you got a prize which I'll pass on when I see you. Simon.

Lake Vyrnwy half marathon

The ideal course for a windy day, sheltered and tree-lined. There were a few strong gusts in the last few miles but nothing too distressing. I could only find three Buckley Runners on the results so please let me know if I missed anybody.

Help needed at Llandudno

Hi everybody

I have just received a call from Gareth Hughes. He is looking for help to act as counters and other supporting roles for the 24 hour championships to be held in Llandudno on 23rd/24th September.

Can you help? Gareth is looking for people to do a four hour stint (or it could be shared) starting at midday on Friday 23rd up to midday on Saturady 24th.

If you can be there it will make a valuable contribution to this prestigious event as well as supporting John Pares who is representing Wales in this event (along with Sean McCormick of Abergele).

Additionally he is looking for help on Thursday evening to set the course up.

Travelling expenses will be paid.

If you can help please contact Gareth directly by email (gareth_anwen@talktalk.net) or on 01745 888087. If you need any more info please contact me.

Many thanks

Rob

Cilcain mountain race

As usual, a good turnout from the club for this blue-riband local event which provides the novelty of crowd support on a fell race. And, as usual, everybody put in fine performances. As with last year, the new route is so much better than the old up-and-down.
