Riverbank 10k, Moel y Gamelin fell race
Two wins for Buckley Runners on Sunday. Jez won the Moel y Gamelin fell race above Llangollen by a significant margin. Simon Roberts won the Riverbank 10k in Rhuddlan. Wins by Jez are now commonplace, he is flying. Wins by Simon R are more like total eclipses of the sun: somewhat rarer!

Update of diary for July
Please see below the update list of events. I have added most of the club championship events in BOLD
Just a reminder how the club championship works: -
- all club members are eligible but you must enter the event as a Buckley Runner (and preferably run in a club vest)
- You must complete at least one race in each category to qualify for the club championship.
- For your best result in each category you score 26 points for first finisher, 25 for second, 24 for third etc
- You score one extra point for each other race you complete in the category
- Plus for Over 40 add 1 point, Over 50 add 2 and Over 60 add 3.
- These score the same including the extra point for each race (7 BL races and 6 CC races - 5 CC League + N. Wales Championships)
If anyone has extra races that they would like included please email the details to me.

Hotfoot up Famau
The hardest 5k in the World*. But it's that time of year again, when the races come thick and fast, so good numbers - 100 or so - turned up again for this tough little race, which starts from Penbarras before plunging into the valleys on the Vale of Clwyd side. The inevitable climb up Stony Gully is the icing on the cake. Some tired legs after Ras y Berwyn, but you don't get too much time to feel sorry for yourself on this one...

Ras y Berwyn
A great new race on the calendar in an area long associated with access problems and therefore an irresistable temptation to many of us (also happened to be a counter in the Welsh and North Wales fell race series). Jez and Simon R had reccied it in advance, only to find out that nesting birds necessitated a complete reversal of the planned route. It was a tad moist underfoot on the long climb to Cadair Berwyn, but the rest was just ankle-snapping tussocks and thick heather. Around half marathon distance I think, over three peaks, maybe 3500ft of climbing? Performances of the day came from Pete, John and Jez. Thanks are due to organiser Peter Agnew of Clwydian who did a great job. SGR.

Up the Beast
The big Beast roadshow rolled into sleepy Maeshafn on Tuesday evening. The creation of evil genius John M, it may be the steepest fell race in North Wales (I'm thinking of the second climb back up Bryn Alyn when I say that!). It has been blessed by pleasant evening sunshine since its revival 4 or 5 years ago, and always attracts a decent field of 70+ runners from across the region. Many of our club stalwarts were there to help out (thanks to all!) and good numbers also ran, climbed and crawled their way round the course. The pickled onions and balsamic vinegar were safely disposed of during the prize giving, expertly compered by Huw. No driving gloves, gnomes or bags of cement this year?

Presentation Night and Final results for 2011-12
Posted by Rob
We had a splendid evening in the Running Hare last Tuesday, nearly 30 of us turned up for food, beer and the annual presentation of awards. A cheerful and pleasant evening.
The highlight of the evening was Steve Bellis, resplendent in his white tracksuit with his Olympic torch. It was a delight to see so many people, especially young people, reacting to the torch. It brings the Olympics a bit closer. I hope it inspires some of the youngsters to go on and achieve their potential. Thank you Steve, and congratulations for your efforts on behalf of Barnados. I am sure that as a Buckley Runner you managed to keep a decent pace without getting tired!
Rob spoke briefly to thank the staff of the Running Hare for the evening and to congratulate all the club members on a splendid season and thank them for their efforts throughout the season.
The final award for the evening was the Buckley Runners Members award.
There were nominations for a wide range of members including: -
Jane Lindley for consistent enthusiasm and support for other runners (several nominations)
Dave Boothroyd for supporting new members and doing some big races
Les Coathup for keeping everything together
Simon Robert for his performance across all the disciplines
Jez Brown for outstanding efforts
Sue Ridings (and Ellie) for looking after John
The awarded went to Matt Rose. there were many nominations for Matt for his outstanding effort and performance throughout the year. The results below show just what he has achieved. Add to that a series of PBs, representing North Wales and Wales, and winning the Border League companionship. Congratulations to Matt.
The other exciting result was Margaret winning the Club Championship, by making sure she scored in every category. Well done Margaret.
