Chester half
Any numbers going for the Chester half? If so, please get in touch (simon.roberts@chester.ac.uk)
Mynydd Troed
The first race in this year's Welsh fell running championships was badly timed, with a howling gale and freezing rain battering those of us who'd made the long trip down to Pengenffordd near Brecon. The route was shortened, probably inevitably, but still involved two steep climbs up Mynydd Troed. The wind blew us up the first climb, although sometimes came in from the side, knocking runners down like skittles. Simon R performed a full somersault on the descent then demonstrated an almost unbelievable level of stupidity by following the tape of the longer original route instead of taking a short cut back up the road. Jez had a much better run, finishing well up a very strong field drawn from across Wales (13th?). Sue also ran a good race, but the real hero was John - who finished with the most classic case of hypothermia I've ever seen. Unable to talk and shivering uncontrollably he was plonked in front of the pub fire to thaw out whilst receiving several full body massages. He then got a very comprehensive full medical at Abergavenny hospital (he's in fine fettle by the way) and ended up with a tremendous haul of outdoor gear, including a set of children's waterproofs, that kindly onlookers had stuffed into his bag...

A weekend of races!
Its been a busy weekend for the club members attending three races.
On Saturday was the Wrexham 10 incorporating the North Wales Championships. Still waiting for the full results but an excellent day for the club! Nine Buckley Runners turned out for the race of us ran on a modified 2-lap course on the industrial estate at Wrexham (changes forced by road works)
Matt Rose won the race in 53-10 making him North Wales Champion for 10miles
Simon Roberts 58.25 1st MV40
John Bradshaw 61….. (ish) 1st MV 35
Jeff 63.53 3rd MV45
Les 64.05 1st MV55
Mike Jones 67 mins
Jack 83.30 was 2nd MV70
Rob 94.14
Margaret 78.38 won 1st LV50.
The men won the vets and got 2nd in the senior teams.
On Sunday three club members ran the 10km Race 4 Rescue in Mold on a very cold, wet morning. Paul, Leighton and Rob all completed the course. They probably fared better than Jane and Rup who volunteered to help. Jane was marshalling at the top of the hill, and Rup on the drinks station on Bryn Coch lane, Demand was low and they both got very cold and wet. Well done to both of you.
Also on Sunday several Buckley Runners went to Brecon for the fell race as it is part of the Welsh series and needed to qualify. Conditions were dreadful. Still waiting to hear the outcomes.

Border League results
Last night (Wednesday) was the final race of the Borders League season followed by the presentation of awards. I'd like to thank everyone from the club who contributed to another really good season. We have performed well at every race, with a good turnout and excellent all-round efforts.
As a result of that sustained effort: -
The men were third overall in Division 1
The Ladies won Division 2 and are promoted to Division 1
The veterans were 2nd overall
The men were 4th in the improvers (with 3376 points - 2 less than last year)
The ladies were 3rd in the improvers with an improvement of 229 points.
I don't have the individual results (I gave my copy to Gareth Hughes, Daily Post reporter) but the individual championship was a double for Buckley:
Matt Rose won the men's cup
Erika Robinson won the ladies with a score of just 6 points! (that means 6 wins!!!)
I'll post individual award winners when I get them - they'll be on the blog.
And you can always see them for yourself on BL Results
And you'll see them in Gareth's column in Friday's Daily Post.

Chester Spring 5 (April 4th)
If the name conjours up images of warm sunny evenings and little fluffy lambs playing around in fields then you obviously were not at this event. It must have been the coldest event I have run in for a long time. But as usual this event, early in the season attracted a big (372) and competitiive field.
Eight Buckley Runners braved the near freezing conditions on a dull, breezy evening to run five miles through the Countryside. The route is slightly changed from previous years to meet road safety requirements. It was rumoured to be slightly faster with the start moved to a straight road and the grass section at the finish shortened. It certainly is an excellent fast route, slightly downhill for the first half and slightly uphill from 2.5 to 4.5 miles. It is well organised and well marshalled, they even have stop/go boards to control the traffic.
The results:
Paul Stinton 47th in 30.20
Shaun Hooson 89th in 31.46
Mike Jones 99th in32.00
Margaret Ludden 232nd in 37.21
Mike Ludden 243rd in 37.42
Leighton Williams 245th in 37.48
Dave Wooton 254th in 38.19
Rob Mackey 298th in 41.26
I have never seen a finish area empty so quickly. It was not the evening for standing around chatting for long. But a good event nevertheless.
Posted by Rob (ps - pleased with my time - 2 minutes quicker than last year. That can't be down to changes to the route, just wanted to get in out of the cold)
