Deestriders Off-Road Series Race 1, Thursday 3rd June

The first race of the series saw a good turnout by Buckley Runners. The 5 mile route was mainly the same as previous years but with some interesting changes. There is less tarmac, some sections being replaced with narrow twisting paths through the woods or more sections of the field. Fortunately it was dry, some of the hills would be tricky in wet conditions. Generally a much better course, more “off-road”.

I enjoyed the run, legs were tired but I got a new PB. Not difficult really because it was a new course. I like the series, it’s a good chance to measure yourself, a rare chance to run several times over the same route. Unfortunately I upset the local footballers, who were having a kick-around. One of them seemed to think I was unreasonable not to kick his ball back, which he had hoofed onto the course. It obviously escaped his notice that all the runners had numbers on their vests. It’s a race, Sunshine; stopping to return footballs is not part of it. It is worrying that people like him are allowed to vote, and breed.

Rob.
